Red face differential problem for 1991 F-150

I have a 1991 F-150 XLT Lariet that Has 204,000 miles on it. Yeah the eng and tran have been changed. Recently I had to replace the differential..The first switch was as bad as the one I took out....whined like a banshee! The second one which is in the truck now has a lot of loose play and will all most give you whip lash if you take off fast and sounds like someone with a hammer banging on the rear end. I can't afford to keep buying used units out of old 91's until maybe I will find a good one.
Does anyone know of a newer model unit that will fit without a bunch of modifications. I can replace the chunk but that is a little out of my budget.
Thanks

There is no "chunk" in the Ford 8.8" rear axle you have in your 1991 F-150. Any Ford truck 8.8" axle in the 87ish (or older) through 1996 will work as a replacement.

I was hoping that someone might know of a year model newer than the 90's that might fit. Most of the salvage yard units are much like the one I have (lots and lots of miles).
Thanks for the input.

I agree with that statement 100%. I have never had any luck finding a decent drive axle from a salvage yard that didn't require some repairs to bring it up to par. On the other hand having a "spare" allows you to rebuild it then install at your leisure.

I have rebuilt several front and rear axles in my home garage with no air tools over years. It's not rocket science, but you do need a few tools and some patience.
