99 7.3l power steering leak

YUP AFTER FIGHTING WITH MOTOR I HAVE COME ACROSS A MASSIVE POWER STEERING LEAK. IVE LOOKED AT ALL LINES COMING OUT OF PUMP NOT THERE ITS ON DRIVER SIDE ITS RUNNING DOWN SOMEWHERE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE. I SEE FRAME WET I SEE MUD FLAP WET I SEEN FUEL/LINES/BRAKE LINES WET HARNESS WET BUT NOT SURE WHERE IT MIGHT BE. I CAN TELL U THAT WHERE THE BRAKE MASTER IS AND THE STEERING BAR THAT COMES OUT OF FIREWALL LOOKS WET BUT I DON'T SEE DRIPS. DOES FLUID SOME HOW GO THROUGH THAT BAR ON THE INSIDE OR SOMETHING? HOW DOES THE POWER STEERING WORK ON THESE TRUCKS? CAUSE I SEE THE ONLY 2 LINES GOING OUT OF PUMP BUT MAN THEY LOOK DRY AS HECK..

CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME IDA'S TO WHERE TO LOOK I HOPE THE MASTER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STEERING ON THEESE TRUCKS. BUT I KNOW ITS POWER STEERING CAUSE I HAVE TO KEEP FILLING IT. SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORCE THOUGH.

THANKS GUYS

DENNIS

The blue thing is a accumulator. If the engine should stall that blue thing gets you a couple of power brake applications. Dont take it off, It has a large spring in it.

DO they leak? Cause the way its so WET man i dont know if that's leaking or the top NUT/bolt but i tighten it a lil the other day but today i wiped it up the best i could with rags so tomorrow i can take falshlight and look to see if i see marks up dripping.. but i can say where that blue CYL is its rusty around the CYL. Not sure if thats good or bad but man this leak has to go at least i now kno that my power steering pump is flushed out with new fluid. LMAO

okay guys im bringing this post back because it went from a leak to now a replacement booster...

so here are my questions. I have all ready pulled both pump lines off booster.

I have also pulled both bolts outta the master cyl. For some reason i have 2 problems

1st the master is not coming out of booster/off. Do i just need to tap/pound it off? Or am i missing something?

2nd problem the power steering pump line on the driver side of boost is unhooked and unscrewed but will not pull out of hole. Any idea why maybe rusted in? or is it connected to the boost somewhere. The only way i was able to pull line in the middle of line...

Also what else do i need to know about removing the rest of this boost?
my plans are to pull off master move to side then go inside truck pull out 4 bolts then that's it right?

From the pics it looks like the line just rusted. I have rarely seen a hydroboost unit fail on one of the trucks.

power steering leak

Right up my alley, so to speak. Have you corrected this issue? There are some tricks to find troublesome leaks. Clean off area (engine NOT running) with a spray can of ether starting fluid. The when it dries start the engine have someone watching for the leak/seep. Have another person turning the steering wheel all the way to the left or right stop. his puts the system at its highest pressure. If the leak is on the pressure side you should be able to find it. Remember clean all oil off first or you can be fooled. Start there. Good hunting

if i can remove this master CYL off the booster i'll be removing the booster and i'll let you all know if its fixed or not.. at this point i did have a bad leak running down my driver side a few months ago.. i was able to tighten up a few lines and the leak stopped.. but as for the spongy and the noise while brakes being pressed sounds to me like a booster. so im doing one step at a time....

So is everything fixed? My power steering pump is leaking like crazy.....fill two days grinding again and its odd because when I brake it makes more noise! I'm going to try power steering - guys suggestion for checking for leaks. I'm really hoping its just a hose.......

Well I found and fixed my leak....it was actually rather easy. My leak was the High Pressure hose from the Power Steering reservoir to the Hydro pump Napa part #7-3435 $31.93; of course they had to order it as they don't seem to stock anything at this store! This is a Gates hose w/ Lifetime Warranty, but hopefully it will last the 200k the original one did, but we shall see. I also flushed the system out w/ Mobil One Synthetic Tranny fluid and she is much better now.

To change all I removed was the Drivers side IC pipe and the Air Cleaner. Now I did remove the drivers tire as well just so I could get my step stool closer, but it is not necessary. Good Luck..........
