Did the 58 styleside have dual tanks? I know this is a dumb question but was it stock 6 or 12 volts?

 

None of our body style trucks had dual tanks. It should be 12v, I think '56 was when they switched to 12v but not sure, I do that all of our trucks are 12v though.

 

Scott; Your 58 was 12v stock. I'm not aware of a factory frame mounted fuel tank for the style-side pickups. Many of us have put tanks between the frame rails either in addition to or in replacement of the stock cab mounted tank.

1967: First year FoMoCo offered an auxillary fuel tank for F100/350's, used in conjunction with in-cab fuel tank.

Manually operated fuel tank selector valve on floor adjacent to the drivers side of the seat switched the tanks. Toggle switch below dash switched the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other.

For many years, aftermarket companies offered single and saddle auxillary fuel tanks.

Thru 1955: 6V positive ground / 1956 thru today: 12V negative ground.

 

I must have a 67 or later bed on my truck. It looks factory. There are no tank selector valve or toggle tank switch in the cab. The more i discover and work on this truck the more it grows on me.

 

I doubt you have a later bed, it wouldn't match the 1957/60 cab lines, wouldn't fit properly as there would be a large gap between the cab and bed due to increased wheelbases over what was available 1957/60, but...

I'll betcha if you have an auxillary or saddle tanks, they're aftermarket, cuz there was no such thing available from FoMoCo back then.

 

Here is what my bed looks like. The gap between the cab and bed look stock. There is no gas tank in the rear, but the one behind the seat is there.

Sounds like the fuss is about the fuel door in the side of your bed?
If you want to use that fuel door, I would hit the junk yards with a tape measure and find a tank that fits between your frame rails. Thats what I did I found a 22 gal tank from a rodeo but the fill is on the other side. Seems like early bronco's filled on that side and would be about right.

I'm just tying to learn as much as I can about this truck. I don't mean to be fussy. That was also my first try at posting a photo. I'll get it right next time.

 

I used to own a Kennel and I trained dogs for Police work. I got my dogs from all over the world. After 20 plus years I sold the kennel and now I work for the State of Iowa regulating the Casinos.

 

From handling working dogs to wrangling big dogs.LOL

 

I don't have a kennel or a kennel license, but have 5 Basset Hounds.

Lovable, but hard to train, you don't own them, they own you. So...no one in their right mind needs any!

 

Lovable counts for a lot.... My 9' flareside bed has a factory made hole on the drivers side. I always wondered why, but then I saw a '65 9' flareside .with a gas cap there. So now I know the bed I found came from a '65 or '66. Now you got ME thinking of an aux tank.... to fill that hole. A PO riveted a crude patch over it, but from the inside you can see it's a neat factory hole. With the recent fluxuations in fuel prices, it could be a money saver........
