A Mechanics Credibility

Hey All,

The Other day I was getting My plow fixed when my mechanic told me that I was Leaking Diesel from two "Small Hoses" that had dry rotted in the Back of the engine, I was wondering if that was a Common Problem with these Engines, or his he trying to snake me, Also I Bought this Truck used and Cant find the engine block heater plug is there anyway to check if there is a Heater.

I appreciate any help you guys offer Thanks again..

Yes, it is common for those hoses to rot. I'm sure he's talking about the little blue hoses in the valley.

You should be able to see the block heater on the drivers side of the engine block. It's possible it doesn't have one. What year is your truck? IIRC, the block heater wasn't installed on all the 97's, maybe more. I'm not positive on that, but I thought I read it somewhere.

I believe in 97 it was an option. Look under the truck between drivers side battery and front frame. Ford tie-wraps up it in that area and of course it is black in color like everything else in that area. Bright flashlight helps a lot. I looked and looked for it and finally cut some tie wraps in that area and it fell on my head. You can also look up by the oil filter and (on mine) there is a red power type cord and that is the block heater power cord. I've yet to figure out why or where it starts out red and ends up black though.

The hard output lines from fuel pump to heads rear have small black rubber seals.yes they fail..also like most everything else in the fuel system after a couple hundred thousand miles.
