'96 5.0L dies like a switch is flipped
I've had the truck for a little over two years now and the only two major issues I've had until this point have been a replaced water pump seal and a coolant hose bursting on my way home. Regularly maintained, etc. etc..
About 6 months ago it started running really rough, chugging and backfiring, throwing codes for banks 1 and 2 running rich. Replaced MAF, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coolant temp sensor, TPS, battery, but finally solved the problem with a timing job from a mechanic.
Everything ran fine for a while but still not like it once was. I noticed that the voltage gauged would dip and cause the truck to sputter, sometimes die, while idling or driving. Had alternator rebuilt and it ran perfect for about a day then I feel/hear a pop while driving with the lights/heater on and the guage dips.
Since then, I don't notice as much dip in the gauge as before but its there and the truck is dying while driving. It doesn't feel starved for power or gas, it's like a switch is thrown and it's off. I've been pulling the pos and neg off of the battery for 10-15 minutes, throwing them back on and it will fire right back up. I notice a coolant smell from the engine compartment when I pop the hood and I've had to keep constant watch on the coolant levels since I bought the truck because I've been losing it somewhere, but I never see it on the ground or white smoke from the tailpipe.
Fuel pressure has been tested along with all the other replacements I've mentioned and it was fine. Taken off the IAC and cleaned it up as best I could. I think there's a few more things I've done but I can't think of, just ask and it should jog my memory.
