Ecoboost break in?

Just picked up my 2013 FX4 Eco 4x4 Screw 6.5 bed with 3.73 gears. LOVE the truck but am very worried about the mileage. Is there a break in point that these things are supposed to get good mileage? Have 400 miles on it and havent been able to get better than 12.5 combined hwy and city. I have even been driving like a granny to try to get the average to go up. Very dissappointed so far. Even going up a small incline on the hwy the turbos seem to call for boost and avg guage drops to about 10. (Even with cruise on)
Is something wrong or are you gus experiencing the same thing? My wife just did a 120 mile hwy trip from detroit to Lansing and back and got 10.9!!!!!
My 2010 5.4 got at least 14 avg.
HELP!! I am starting to really miss my 2010, thinking i made a mistake.

While much of the engine components are seated, there are some (such as piston rings) that can take up to 1,000 miles to fully seat. Here's what I do with every new OEM vehicle...for the 1st 1,000 miles

1. I lock out overdrive and drive normally (city & hwy)- this keeps the rpm's constantly varied...do not beat on the engine
2. At 500 miles, I change the oil & filter to remove any mfg contaminents that may exist.
3. At 800-1,000 miles.....we go for a long trip....something in the 2-4 hour driving range, running 70-80 mph with the overdrive off.
4. Upon my return, I change oil & filter.

I guarantee you engine will have a much different, smoother "feel" to it. Max mpg's though are typically seen at around 10k miles.

Lol don't get too discouraged ! No Two trucks will get the same mpg ! My daily commute is anywhere from 35-55 mph and that helps me achieve my good mpg.If I run the interstate @ 70-75 I get 16.5 -17 all day long. Also when I pull a trailer I get 10 mpg. I also have 285/65/18 nitto terra grapplers on mine.

Ask him what gearing he has compared to yours? Is he driving on flat ground most of the time? What is the elevation of where he drives...etc. Don't get too discouraged mpg varies.

Well in Michigan the winter blend will have a negative affect on mpg. Where I live there aren't many hills in north west Louisiana.

Just bought my 2012 eco yesterday. Running it hard (75-85) on the way home got 13.7 mpg. Today taking it easy in mixed town/highway driving showing 15.8. I'm learning to take it easy and the stay out of the turbo unless I need it( or just want to have fun)

I live in a hilly area. I get 16.3 everyday. Took it to the beach 9hrs and got 22. Never really changed from day 1. It now has 17,000.

The 3.73's won't do as well as the lower numerically geared trucks. They will allow your truck to perform like a Mustang GT though. Have fun...

Your mpg will get better over time. I have 10k on my 12' FX4 Ecoboost CC and I avg 18 mpg. When I first got it I was getting 15-16 mpg. It's a great motor, I have had zero problems out of mine.

I have nearly 21K on mine now. The winter blend fuel sucks! I'm down to 18 mixed where I was getting 20+ with summer blend. Still not bad, just whining a little.
