Yesterday I was backing up an incline to hook to my trailer and it was a PIA. I have noticed that when going from drive to reverse there is a 2 second delay going into reverse, which i heard can be normal. However when I was backing up to my trailer it took a higher rpm 800-900 rpm to keep reverse engaged while backing to the trailer, like reverse was being declutched. Fluid is clean and no other problems. Any ideas???
How steep an incline? Is your fluid level normal? How many miles on the trans, late '00 & early '01 had problems but I don't know if reverse trouble was one of the symptoms of the trans going out or not.

I was under the imperssion that the last couple of months in '00 was when they changed to tha mechanical diode clutch set up and changed back in mid '01. If I got some misinformation I stand corrected - sorry
Mike
The mechanical diode went into production at the start of the 2001 model year. No 2000 model year truck had a mechanical diode. You're probably getting confused because the 2001 model year started in July, 2000.
This sounds similar to the problem I had just not as bad. When I took it in to have it rebuilt my trans guy said there were 2 bolts that had backed out not allowing fluid to flow..... something like that maybe Mark can clear that up
Slight incline and fluid is just below the hot full mark after towing a trailer 40 miles. Is seems the engine needs to a slight rev to engage the trans clutch. Other wise it runs great.
There are some feed bolts above the valve body that can loosen and leak internally. Then the clutches don't get the pressure they need. This seems likely to be your problem.
