Wal Mart Motorcraft oil filter different then the dealer filter?

I always use both Motorcraft oil filter and oil for my truck. I always get my oil from wal mart, I look for the oil filter there, but they never have it, so I always get that from the dealer. However this time when buying my oil, I saw they had a Motorcraft oil filter #2016. So I bought it. But I kept an old box from the dealer filter, and the box seems different. (see picture below). As you can see the logos and stuff are different on the box, but what concerned me the most was under the #2016, there is a longer part number, and it is the same as the dealer bought part number but it ends with a "B" and the dealer bought filter ends with an "A". So are these the same? the filter looks the same, and its crazy that there is no part number at all on the filter, just patents and stuff. I do not want to risk putting this filter in my truck if there is any chance it is not right or is ****, i'd rather take the trip to the dealer. Visually it looks the same as the other filter though.

Feedback on this is much appreciated.

Wal Mart filter box on the left, and dealer bought filter box on the right.

If I am not mistaken, the box on the right is just newer stock. I have bought filters from both as you OP and compared visually and see nothing different. I now order my filters from dieselfuelfiltersonline.com and they actually come in a generic white box, but the filters are the same visually and I have talked with them on the phone and they claim that the generic white are direct from Motorcraft.

Thanks guys, I wasn't so concerned with the box, but more concerned that the last letter of the part number is different, I didn't think they would do they if they just changed the box and not the part?

i am sure it has to do with how it is accounted for and the distribution channels.

If my engine blows due to a faulty oil filter, can I send you the bill?

HAHA! I will make a note of it!

So in all seriousness I guess this filter seems ok. I know once I put it in I will always have a strange thought in my head until my next oil change though....

Take both boxes to the dealer and ask them to look it up and have them explain why the part numbers are different if they are for the same application.
