Heater Air Control Issues

Guys,

I have a 2003 E450 Cutaway w/7.3 turbo. The air controls are not working properly.

Set control to floor, fan runs, no airflow at floor, just front of dash outlets.

Set to Defrost, a little airflow from defrost vents but most from dash outlets.

Fan speed set to hi....you can hear it running hi but airflow does not match fan speed...flow seems restricted or diminished.

What have I got here??????......temp control works as it should.

Would like the air to flow in the desired direction at the desired speed.

Thanks for any help.

Jon

Sounds like your blend door has failed or your have a vacuum problem.

Check your vacuum pump and its associated tubing.

look at your vacuum hoses under the hood. They get cracks or brittle from over the years. You can spray throttle body cleaner around them and find it fast. Also check the one way valve for leaks. One side is black the other is white or clear.

I don't think I would use brake cleaner it's a sure fire way to eat up the hoses.

You can still look for the cracks and leaks or bad "T" fittings. My friends diesel had the same problem from heat next to the hose.

Jon

Check the heater directional water flow valve next to the ac box. Its a metal valve with your heater hoses on it. make sure the.vacuum hose is closing and opening.

Also check for leaks at the ***** on the back of the selector switch.

I just went through this with my '99. I'm not sure how the diesel system works, but my line broke at the vacuum reservoir behind the evaporator housing. I ran a new reservoir under the hood and connected in to the vacuum line behind the control in the dash.
