1948 F1 Hood latch ?

Hey guys, the PO off my truck installed a hood pin with a c clip to hold the hood down. I would like to go back to a stock set up. but I can't anywhere that makes all the parts. As there are none of the org. on my truck now. So is there another way to set up a latch with out going to a tilt kit? That is close to org. but I also wanted to close the holes up at the front of the hood.

Thanks,
Todd

Todd, People here go out of their way to be helpful, but here's a clue, they aren't just sitting around waiting for someone to ask a question, we have lives outside the forum. You need to have a little patience, posting the same question twice won't get it answered any quicker, and it's considered rude. Even if it happens accidentally, delete one of them before it gets an answer. Having two identical threads going is confusing for everyone.

Have you checked with Classic Haulers www.classichaulers.com ? Even if they don't have the new parts in their catalog, give them a call, they sometimes have the parts used. If you can wait a few days for an answer, one of the members here may have a spare set in their parts stash. The drilled holes will need to be welded closed and metal finished. DON'T try to fill them with bondo or fiberglass it won't hold.

Now Ax, let's assume that Todd didn't intend to double post...just a little eager is all.

Todd - you're best plan would be to buy a hood from someone parting out a truck. Check / recheck Craig's List. You might also contact the fellow from this CL ad, he has been handling recovered parts from old Fords for a while - could have what you need.

ford f1 parts 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952

Good Luck

The holes could be welded shut. There is a pickup in a nearby wrecking yard that might have the hardware on it. I could check, but when I'll get out there is not known!

The hood latches and associated hardware show up on Ebay fairly frequently.
You might get lucky and someone on here might have extras laying around.

Good luck

There are several items on Ebay right now that you could use. Over the past couple of months, I have seen latch handles, post and springs, entire latch plates, etc. In fact, every part necessary to make a complete latch.

Here is what I used. It is from a Dodge Van. It might not be what you are looking for but is an idea.

I have a hood latch thats from a 51-52 but not sure if it will fit. You would have to ask 48-50 guys. If it will work you can have what I have for free, it is ruff but I think usable, just pay for shipping. I dont have any hood latch parts though.

48-50 and 51-52 hood latches are not interchangeable.

I could sure use this on my 52. Let me know if we can work something out.

Parts available

Todd,
I have the hood dowel/spring assembly (on the left) that will fit your truck. I bought it a while back thinking that I would need it but now I don't. PM me if you need it.

The dowel assembly on the right is to a '52 and as you can see it is significantly different.

Todd, It looks like you started duplicate threads? See my answer at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1203810-1948-f1-hood-latch.html#post12533300

Pete,

Are you sure that the dowel assembly on the right in your picture is from a 52? I've never came across a cup and spring like that in any of the 52 hoods that I've torn apart. The only difference that I know of (and by checking the parts in the catalog) are the dowels between the 48-50 and 51-52 model years. Everything else, cups, nuts and spring, are the same.
