Help ID-ing an O/D trans
So I found a BW overdrive trans for a really good price; cost me more in gas than the purchase price (350 miles round trip). I just can't figure out what it is and what it came out of. It does have the 9 bolt side cover with TAAA-7222-A on it.
The tail housing says R10E-1A. The center section says R10E-8.
Some other numbers: on the trans case K28-50 and the letters PE below it. The input shaft cover has 8A 7050 on one side and 14 on the other. I'll need parts and could use some help determining what this is. I do have a solenoid but no governor. I'll also have to equip the truck with a relay, cable and kick down switch, but I found an alternative wiring diagram that uses a Radio Shack relay and other parts like switches to make it a 6 speed trans.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Well it looks like I shoulda gone to get this trans with a tape measure in my hand. The input shaft is almost an inch shorter than the 4sp the engine came with. the shaft is also waaay smaller in diameter. Release bearing has about 1/2" of play when installed on the O/D's shaft.
Anybody wanna buy a trans?

I found a number on the solenoid if that will help: 1119772.

As the trans is a side loader and has the shorter input shaft it is most likely a passenger car unit, pre-55. If this is the case and you had a F-100 3 speed
non-overdrive trans you should be able to adapt the overdrive to it, needs an extra hole in the trans case for the reverse lock out shaft. By 55 there were different trans gears sets depending on the motor it originally came with (F-100).

Perhaps I just got lucky (doubtful) but the P.O. ran the 3 speed until the cluster gear almost chewed its way out the rear of the case; he had wiped out the OD section earlier on apparently. I found another case collecting dust at the local trans rebuilder and by drilling the hole in the rear of the case to accomodate the rod that kicks the the OD lever back to direct when one shifts to reverse all fit together. Given the multitude of variations Ford manufactured can I say that across the board that it will work, heck no but it did for me once. The biggest parts problem I had was finding the slip yoke for the rear of the trans, OD same as Fordomatic but longer than standard 3 speed F-100. Good luck.

6Spd.
Be careful w/ the 6spd. I had/have the 59 psgr. car 3sd OD that came w/ my 352 mtr. that I planned on using, but I studied the ratios and determined one or more of the gear "splits" overlapped and would not give me 6 useable ratios.
Further study showed a med. duty later (69?) F100 3spd od would give 6 nicely spaced gears. And it proved out. Been running it for years.
I have all the ratios and casting # documented if you need them.

all of the T85-N pickup trannys I've seen had the R-11 overdrive. Supposed to be much stronger than the R-10. I've seen the "6 speed" conversions and no they are not 6 evenly spaced gears, and actually only 5 if the governor is still in the equation since it basically prevents the split of first gear. Still It's a pretty cool set up.
