5.4 van vs 5.4 truck motor

new member here, ive searched some online and hopefully you guys can shine some light to help me out.
car-part.com shows that the 98 5.4l van motors and truck motors are not enterchangable.... whats to keep them from being swapped? i would think the "short block" would be exactly the same. different heads? intake?
thanks guys!

car-part uses the Hollander Interchange. An engine assembly includes the block, heads, intake, exhaust, oil pan, timing cover. Bare block is the same. It should work if you feel up to changing most everything else. Im not sure if the cams change between the truck and van.

I dont know the specifics on this motor, but normally the intake manifold and oil pan change on a van due to the tight space. Everything you need should be o.k., just be prepared to change the intake and pan.

van to truck motor swaps

I have done a lot of 302 and 351 swaps in the past and the only difference I found was the oilpan...one had the sump in the front and the other had it in the back of the motor so you had to change oil pans and oil pump pick-up tubes. Other then that most everything else is the same.

I recently pulled a 4.6 out of a T-bird and put it in a Lincoln, only difference was the fuel rails...one was on the right and the other car had them on the left side of the motor so I used the Lincoln fuel rails which bolted on to the Thunderbird block.....problem solved.

seems the difference is the oil pan and the intake manifold, the van uses a low profile intake manifold were the trucks is to tall for the van. of thats what research is yielding
