Is it a common issue for the hoods to have fit issues? I really want somebody to say "yes, its simple, here is the fix" but the hood on my 53 sits too far forward and I know its not going to be simple.. It looks like the hinges came detached from the inner hood structure and were welded back on too far back on the hood. When closed, the hood rubs against the fenders on each side and sticks out front about a half inch.

So far I think the best option would be to leave it until I have the engine removed, then with everything closed, get it lined up properly, sneak into the engine compartment and re-weld the hinges to the hood. Too bad the paint is so nice, that won't last through the cutting and re-welding.

 

Here it is: "Yes it is common to have fit issues." But... no simple fix, sorry. Remember the fitment of panels and parts in the 50's especially on trucks was not as we see today... Have guys made them better, yes. Is it simple no. It involves fenders, hood, and hood latch, etc...
