7.3 IDI Coolant / Antifreeze capacity
Sorry to post such a basic question, but I've read some people write they use 6 gallons and others use 8 gallons from different threads. I just finished my [first] coolant flush and change, and i ended up adding just under 6 gallons. I found this to be a bit low, especially considering that I have the E250 Club Wagon, with the rear heater core. You'd think with that added volume to the cooling circuit, it'd be more. Also, I remember reading that my van had 7 gallons coolant capacity, but I can't recall from what--I think the owners manual.
Is 6 gallons correct?

Also was meaning to post this cause I am not sure if people know
Peak now owns fleet charge
Buy Peak Fleet Charge Coolant and Antifreeze (125 oz.) FCA0B3 at Advance Auto Parts
you can get it at advanced autoparts cheaper, plus if you plan ahead of time, order it online for instore pickup when they are doing there online deal, ( I just ordered 8 gallons for 20% off 14.99 plus I got a 50$ off 100$ coupon coming my way, so it only cost me 12$ a gallon)

Fleet Charge Specifications Sheet
This is what you want. I used 6 gallon and didn't pull the block plugs.
The plugs are separate from the freeze plugs, on the side of the block. One is above the starter, the other is in a similar place on the opposite side.
If you take them out but some pet***** in them. I have some sitting around here to put in.
If you run fleet charge you will need dca 2 and test strips, so you can maintain the coolant additive. I bought mine at ryder fleet products.

Damn. I read on a different thread that pulling the engine plugs was redundant on a coolant change for this motor, so I didn't do it. If I had known that i'd end up with 1-1.5 gallons of flush water in my engine that wouldn't end up draining out, I'd definitely reconsider. I'll have to dip a test strip to see how low my coolant-to-water ratio is. I calculate it could be 42% or as low as 38%.
I'm using Fleetcharge, with the SCA precharge, so I'm not worried about additives, and I installed the filter head, so I plan to install pre-charged filters in the future.

I see what you mean about the plugs, but I found two plugs on the opposite side of the starter. One in front of and another behind the oil filter. Are both coolant plugs?
Also the suggestion to install pet***** is super smart and should be recommended to anyone doing a flush. Do you happen to know the NPT thread size? It looks like 3/8" but I don't want to speculate.
