Daily Driving a 6.4L Supercab...
#16
I'm self employed - my truck is a daily driver - some days I only drive less than 6 miles other days 65 - go ahead - buy one -but make it a super cab - if you need more room buy a school bus (the crew cab likes like on anyway) - if you have anxiety over whether or not to buy one because you don't drive it enough- then go buy a Toyota hybrid. Quit worrying about low mileage trips - tune and delete - then drive it wherever you desire. I also pull a 34 ft 5er when I can get away. I just made a 421 mile run with a job1 with 80,000 miles on it - after tune & delete and I got just over 20 mpg (calculated) wasn't puling the 5er - LOM showed 23.0. These truck aren't cheap or cheap to operate, they are a want - not a need. Take a look at mine in the photo don't get jealous - just go get one.
I can manage about 20, but when I put the cap on, it drops to 16-17....
Also readers remember you might not be able to add a tuner to you're truck, depending on emission laws where you live, so check before you dump cash on a truck.

Mine's a DD. I run minimum 18miles each way to work. About 12 of those are freeway but here in San Jose, freeway is typically 40-45mph on a good day.
It takes me about 5miles to warm up in the morning, so if I'm lucky, the DPF is fully constipated, and I have about 12miles to regen on freeway. It usually finishes just as I reach work. What's really annoying is if I'm stuck in city streets and regen starts. I shut it down for as long as I can until I can get on freeway or a stretch where I can drive continuously for at least 10min
When regen starts, it takes about 5 minutes to heat up to 900F before soot starts burning on its own. The bulk of the burn seems to occur in the next 5minutes based on how hot I see the DPF gets, then it tapers off. If I need to shut down regen, I try let it burn for at least 10min since the bulk of the fuel is spent heating up the DPF before anything happens
Crew cab is a no-brainer. Lot's of room for the kids on long trips. They complain my F150 Supercrew is too crampy. They've been spoiled.... I can't imagine them riding in a sedan. LOL
Oh, and short box vs long box? My wife likes to travel heavy. We had my F150 short box filled on long family trips. She's gotten close to filling the 8ft box recently As long as there is space, she'll fill it. LOL

To get the 20+ mpg - set the cruise at 66 mph - <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
The only time I have the cap off is when I'm pulling the 5er (I don't get 20+ mph when pulling that thing) Looking forward to pulling it with the tune & delete - but my wife says that with a new grand baby due by Christmas, we won't be going South this year. When I tried to explain that we needed to make the trip to verify the tune & delete - my words fell on deaf ears. Even the warm South can't compete with a new granddaughter.<o></o>
