Small block bellhousing, what size clutch?

I'm in the planning stages of swapping over to a 4 cylinder diesel. One of the engines I'm looking at, the Cummins 4bt, was installed stock in some applications with an adapter plate to the "small block" (I know, families, just a figure of speech) Ford bellhousing bolt pattern, the pattern that the 302 and 351 use, among others.

I currently have an Np435 tranny with an 11" short style clutch.

I'm wondering, will my current clutch setup fit in a small block bell? If it will, how much bigger could I conceivably go?

Just the question of the day, looking forward to an answer.

Thanks, AleX

Don't know, buy my '65 289 Mustang had a 10 1/2" clutch, so I'd bet an 11 would fit if the flywheel is drilled for it.

I went to NAPA and looked up clutch discs for an '89 F150 and '95 F250.

The F250 351w shows an 11" clutch disc.

The F150 with either a 300 or a 302 shows an 11" clutch disc available.

I would say this would indicate they used 11" clutchs and that they will fit inside the SBF bell.

Wow, thankyou! I hope you didn't go over there just to answer my question!

I did some looking around on Summit and Advanced Auto last night myself, and it was indicating the same thing.

The 300 6 is SB pattern? I never knew.

Thanks for the help! AleX
