Dale,
I used "Dyno-Mat". It is a sound-deadening dense rubber sheeting that is rubber on one side (face down on the metal) and a silver "aluminum foil" looking covering on the other side (which goes face-up on the install). It's a cut-to-fit deal, as Dyno_mat comes in pre-set lengths and width rolls. Install is strainght forward: measure areas to cover, cut Dyno-Mat to size (maybe a bit larger just to be sure. You can always trim any excess), the apply with a heat gun for great adhesion to the metal surface of the interior of your truck! It can be used all over the interior: floor, firewall, doors, rear, headliner... And it really helps the sound system by dampening motor and exterior noises.

There are other similar products by different names. Should be able to find via Internet.

Good luck,
Daryl

I just finished up a (now don't shoot me) 1970 VW Bug. I lined the whole interior with a product I found at Home Depot.

It is a 1/4" self-sticking foam air ducting insulation, with a foil backing. One small piece, on the inside of the door, produced the oh so desired "thunk", when you close the door.

I did the interior of the roof before I put in the headliner, floorpans, firewall, etc. The stuff is dirt cheap and very effective for cutting down on the noise factor.

Aekisu,

Any idea what the actual name of the insulation from Home Depot is? I went there and asked for this type product and just got a blank stare. I searched around for it and couldn't find it.

Thanks

I like to use the double-foil insulating material available at Home Depot or OSH Hardware. It comes in bulk rolls at OSH so you can buy just the amount you need. It comes in 4' or 2' widths. In between the thick reflective foil layers is a 1/4" bubble plastic material. It really helps with the noise/heat and it is easy to trim to fit. John

I'm really interested in the adhesive backing. I have some of the normal stuff but was hoping the adhesive backed stuff would be easier to apply.

I used "gorilla snot", which is 3M weatherstripping glue. I glued some of the double-back foil under the hood of my Fairlane to protect the paint from the heat of that massive 272. That was nine years ago and it has yet to let go. Good luck, John

I seriously considered that option. If not for the undeniable truth that my little girl would be stompin some floorboard bubbles as we speak. It's really fun. You ever tried it?

The foil stuff also comes in a "wool like" fiber center that is probably a better choice. Although a bit more expensive.

I just walked out to the shop and looked. Sorry but I threw the package away. My best guess would be Frost King. It comes in rolls (approximately 6" diameter) and is 12" wide. The foil is visible from outside the package.

There has been a lot of technical discussion about sound proofing on www.turbodieselregister.com

There are a bunch of people who have done tests using sound meters and one of the prefered materials to use is thin lead. You just form it with a mallet and glue it in!
