I have a 94 Bronco with 5.0L and 5 speed. It is often very difficult to shift into 3rd gear and there is almost always a grinding sound when shifting. Is this a problem with the synchros? Or the shifter inside the trans?

 

Does it onlt do this on up shifts. What about on down shifts? Either syncro or shift forks wpuld require opening the trand. Tho i feel that if it was a shift fork issue you have more problems then just 3rd.

It happens only on up shifts. Have you ever rebuilt a manual trans? I heard it's pretty easy, but I've never done it.

 

I have never actually rebuilt one, tho I do have a few T5s out of Mustangs that I have disassembled and cleaned, theye aren't too hard looking.
