EZ Pass question

I am a Connecticut resident with a 2003 F350 that I use to tow a 30 foot travel trailer. I have the truck registered with Combination plates with the only restriction being I can't go on the Merritt Parkway.

I have a personal EZ Pass account from Massachusetts. I called them today with an issue and as they were going over my account the agent asked me if the truck had Combination plates. When I told her yes she told me I needed to get a commercial account for the truck. I told her it was not used for commercial purposes and she said it didn't matter. Because my account was in Massachusetts I had to follow Mass laws and have a commercial accounts even though the truck is registered in Ct. They had no issues with my 86 Toyota truck with combination plates, just my F350.

My question is; can I get an EZ Pass account from another state and avoid getting a commercial account in Mass or am I stuck?

I can say you could get an ez pass in any of several states as it links to your credit card. I cant answer any other part of the legal stuff though.

PA doesn't care if you have a 1 ton though. Some states designate 1 tons as commercial vehicles only and require you to register and insure them as such.

To the OP, as mentioned, if you're a CT resident, why not just open another account with the CT address?
