Traded for a rebuilt FE360. (Rebuilt many moons ago...receipts came with motor)

Fella brings it to the house and I lift it out of the back of his truck with my loader. Oil starts dripping out of what appears to be the rear main seal area. (fly wheel is still on so I'm not to sure)
I held the motor over the bed of his truck and I'd guess we got a foot diameter puddle before it stopped...Not sure what angle I had the motor at but it was not to steep.

I'm going to put it on a engine stand over memorial day weekend and take the oil pan off and look.

Where would the oil be coming from? Everything looks in tact....pan is bolted in place, a very leaky rear main?

Aren't they notorious for leaking from the oil galley plugs near the cam in the rear?

 

The FE's are indeed notorious for rear main seal leaks. I had a 390 pulled out of a '68 Galaxie and dropped into my '79 F150. Over the next 13 months, I managed to soak everything behind the motor of the under carriage. Best of luck!
