Doug Thorley long tubes coming back..

Thought I'd let you folks know about this.

There had been some reports that Doug Thorley had stopped making the long tube headers. for the V10. Part number THY-218Y-C.

Due to lack of finding any available, I emailed Doug Thorley Headers the following:

Are you still making the THY-218Y-C Headers?

I have been told that you stopped, but I see that Summit is still advertising them.

Their reply that came today:

The 218y-c will be back on the market in approx 4-5 weeks. We put it on hold for a while due to low demand but they are slowly getting more popular again.
Thanks

That would be sweet if they were for the 3v. I think that would solve my exhaust stud issues.

Checking the website, it does not look like they have anything for the 3 valve.

The number listed above is for 2 valve engines without EGR. That covers all of the Excursions, but I do not know what the different pickups or RV's need.

They do list one for engines with EGR, part number THY-218Y-S-C

I was running some BANKS headers on my old F250 V10. i found mine on ebay for 1/2 that new. but i lucked into that sale. they did free up some good power, and i could tell a big difference pulling my mud drag truck. there used to be a "ram horn delete" pipe you could add to the stock pipe to eliminate the restrictive design on the factory pipe. a few guys added some shorty tube headers, and the ram horn delete to the stock pipe for good gains as well. definitely cheaper than the BANKS or DOUG headers.

That is kinda what I'm trying to decide. We own an exhaust bender etc....so making a Y pipe is not a big deal, but trying to find the best bang for $$ and These seem like a good middle of the road header. There is no way I'm getting banks. Just trying to decide between these, Hedmans, and JBA.

I think the one problem with the Thorley's was the placement of the O2 sensor. I don't know how they expect a good exhaust gas sample from only one cylinder on each side.

On the other hand, someone around here has them and has not complained, so...

i had the banks on a 2000 model, so i only had one O2 sensor on each header collector. i can't recall exactly but i know one side, i either had to re-route the O2 wires, or they gave me an extension pig tail. but there wasn't any O2's after the collector.

i honestly would buy a set again if i ran across a low priced set.... i think i gave 400 ish for my banks headers/y-pipe kit, new. as for the JBA or Headman, with the shorty header, they will keep a bit more low end, as the long tube move the torque band up a bit in rpm's.

as for exhaust log replacement (that's the factory manifolds) i'd put a set of shorty's on before i gave the replacement cost of the factory manifolds.
