Help needed (Fuel increase for 7.5L)

I just bought a 94 F-350 with the 7.5L 460. I am currently getting 8-9 MPG whether I'm towing or running empty. I know I will never get great economy but 12 would be nice. Any Ideas? The truck was a one owner and only has 154K on it. Would straight piping it help or is there another exhaust that wold help? How about a chip? I ordered one from ACD tonight but will it hurt my motor. Any suggestions would help.

There are a ton of threads on getting better fuel economy from these motors. Use the search. The chip is a waste of money.

What transmission does the truck have?

What size tires?

When was the last time it had a complete tune-up with plugs/wires/cap/rotor and filters?

Does the truck have two tanks? If it does have you checked the MPGs using both tanks?

RLA2005 It has a 4 speed automatic I think. It has 33X12.50 BFG. I don't know when it was last tuned up. Is it best to have the dealership do the tune up or go to a performance shop?

Those tires are taller and wider than stock. Has anyone reset the PSOM calibration constant to compensate for the taller tires? If not then your MPG calculations will be skewed if you are basing off of the truck's odometer.

Do the tuneup yourself is the best methodology IMHO.
