Truck Starting Issues?!?

I'll lay out the problems as maybe someone can come up with an idea as to what I need to smack with my hammer ;-)

Last night, Truck started and drove fine, no weird sounds, vibrations, etc. Shut off for approximately 20 minutes. Went to restart, made the clicking and flickering sounds(etc), radio displayed "low battery", dash indicated nothing (standard display when glow plugs warming), would not start.

About 30 mins later gave it a "boost" (connected jumper cables from a dodge neon and it started like nothing was wrong)

Shut off and restarted just fine like everything was ok.

This morning

Started truck up, everything worked.. Took it for a drive then tested voltages on batteries.

Numbers are off the top of my head, as I was a fool and didn't write them down

Battery 1 - 12.25 (disconnected from cables)
Battery 2 - 12.71 (disconnected from cables)

Low Idle
Battery 1 - 13.25
Battery 2 - 13.27

Everything worked normal.... Removed a "Cell Signal Amplifier" that was hard wired into the truck and was continuously draining power, so as far as I can tell my major power gremlin is now gone... maybe...

Dinner time

Started up fine, moved truck to different location in yard, shut it off

This Evening

Went to start truck, glow plug light didn't illuminate, very hard to get started (nearly drained batteries)

Foolishly shut it off in driveway, went to restart, no joy. Would not cycle glow plugs, ended up clicking, etc before it could start.

Disconnected batteries and checked connections for corrosion, and fuses. Found a blown 20 Amp fuse from "Fuse 107"

Gave it a boost (from the Neon again... wtf) and could not cycle glow plugs, can hear clicking (or something) from engine, waited till clicking like noises stopped, as it seemed to be the same length as the glow plug warming cycle, did this 3 times (its about +5 C, humidity 89%) and was hard to start again (cranked for about 20-30 seconds, compared to the usual 3 seconds), got it running and let it run for about 30mins, and have now shut it off and left it in the driveway out of the way, really don't expect it to start in the morning.

BTW I've owned this truck for 11 Days as of today, bought it from a dealership, which had it sitting on the lot for 6 months (and from what I understand a dead battery for most of that). Only know issues that are engine related were 2 codes - P2286 and P2287, which after investigation on my part the ICP connector was loose and dirty.

And at present the engine is showing no codes (need a better scan tool so I can pull more numbers)

----
Where should I start looking to address the issues, such as the glow plugs (thinking glow plug controller), and the no start issues...

I would start w/ getting the batteries load tested and also getting the alternator tested. Just checking voltages is not enough IMO.

Also short running time (like moving the truck in a driveway etc) destroys the batteries and the FICM since the alternator doesn't begin charging until the GP cycle off.

When it first died it had just completed a drive of about 100-120 KM's (an hour or so of hwy and a bit of city)

Likely the alternator is toast, which is taking out the batteries and at the same time frying the FICM

I mention the short trips because I noticed the pattern in your first post. You cannot do that with a 6.0 since it doesn't charge the batteries after intial start for up to 2 minutes and shouldn't do those driveway manuevers with a diesel anyways.

Rgr, I will have the alternator and batteries tested tomorrow, will also test the FICM as well... Guess I should include the fact that I normally idle the truck for 5+ mins before doing anything as a matter of course (Military mindset, we always idle the trucks for a few mins before doing anything, that was the fluids can come up in tempature)

Also, just to add to the info, I've owned the truck for 11 days, driven approximately 1300 km's, all but 100 km's of that has been high way(60km's each way) all with a warm up period before driving. even my short drives (other than the few maneuvers today) always reach operating temperature.

10-4 buddy, just makin' sure.

If the batteries are new, a good charge will revive them.

Alternator is suspect, which is the case anyways given the stock 6G alternator is bogus to begin with.

Keep an eye on the FICM voltages.

I will be posting the FICM voltages and battery/alternator test later today....

Also calling the dealership and seeing what they are going to do since I bought this truck 12 days ago now. And its only worked for 10 without issue. Bet its going to be like banging my head on a wall dealing with them though.

Also, something that wasn't answered as of yet, is the lack of glow plugs & no indication on dash board (of the glow plugs) related to the FICM?
