Is there an updated HPOP cover for the 05 thru 07 MY PSD'S? It seems to me I remember reading something about this in the past, but I can find a thread on it. Can anyone tell me what the differences is are, and if it is worth changing? I think my STC fitting is on its way out, and I will be in there this weekend. It is is worth the upgrade I want to do it.

 

I'm fairly certain the change was between '04 and '05 models. The earlier trucks with the older style cover don't have the STC fitting.

Thanks for the clarification guy's. I know about the change between the 03-04 to the 05+. Just thought I remember reading about an updated cover for the 05+ MY. Tomorrow I will be doing a few tests to determine if I have a HPO leak, and were it might be(hard starts). I am thinking I may just go through and replace the STC fitting along with the stand pipes and dummy plugs anyway even if I don't find anything.

 

What kind of sealant do you use on the hpop cover when putting it back on?

 

Just a little silicone at the rear plate and block junction. Otherwise it is an o-ring seal.

I used the Ford stuff. TA-29. It is pricey, but I didn't want to take any chances.
I have read that certain sealants can cause the oil to foam.

 

All you need is a couple blobs of sealant at the block seam. You don't silicone the entire cover onto the block.

I know there were updated covers for the 03 and 04 model engines because of issues with the cover rubbing a hole in the HPO lines. I'm not sure that the late model covers have that issue.

 

I've not heard of it either.
