Any idea why this 500 emblem would be on my truck? (pic included)

When I bought my truck, the previous owner did not know what the deal with this 500 emblem was. The 500 emblem was not even included with the truck. Besides one of the truck's previous owners putting this on there over the course of 60 years, does anyone know what this would relate to or why it would have been on there?

Here's just a guess. A PO liked the 500 and put it on the truck and liked it so much that he kept it when he sold the truck to the next owner which would explain why it still isn't with the truck.

Another guess. Some F100s came with either an 'Overdrive' or 'Fordomatic' emblem mounted in the same location. The original emblem was removed and someone fitted the 500 in its place, which was either removed or fell out.

Two guesses, choose the one that makes the most sense to you, or make up your own!

I have the Fordomatic emblem but it is located on my grill above my 'V8' emblem.

Somewhere between '53 and '56 they migrated upwards.

It's no more relevant to a '53 truck than stick-on Buick portholes.

Who knows what the previous owner was thinking.
In my case I added "500" emblems because I installed a Caddy 500ci engine in my 49.

I have quite a collection of differnet "500" emblems. The ones I ended up using came from the glove box lid of a 1964 Galaxy 500. I have them mounted on my hood sides just aft of the hood spears.
