'90 F150 transfer case linkage frozen

I just bought a '90 F150 with only 74000 on it. 2H and 4H work great, but it won't go through the gate to put it in 4L. It looks like it's pretty corroded, so I have been spraying it down with PB Blaster for a few days, to see if I can free it up. Does anyone have any input or advice on how to proceed in freeing up this linkage? Thanks, Johnnyfever

get a dremel tool and go under the truck and cut the detent plate so you don't have to pull it to the side to get to 4lo that's what i did

I believe DieselBrad has a pretty good write-up on the TCASE linkage that seizes up.

Very easy fix, remove the bolts holding the linkage on and take the linkage off entirely and coat all the moving parts with anti-sieze. Same thing happened to mine.

Whatever you do, do NOT try and force it into 4L. You will break the linkage, and it is next to impossible to find a replacement.

Hey Alex, Thanks a ton for the tip on the frozen linkage. I took it apart this afternoon, and cleaned it up real good. Then I coated all moving parts with anti-seize. It worked great. It now goes into 4L and works perfectly! Thanks again for your help. Johnnyfever

I'm glad I could help! Also glad to hear that you can get it into 4 Low now.
