headliner replacement

my headliner in my truck has always been in crummy condition but the other day it decided to sag down and rip from the front all the way to the back. i looked at removing and replacing it and the hardest part looks like getting it out of the truck and the new one back in. is there any trick to making the whole thing easier.

It's pretty easy actually, especially if you dont have a CB in the way like I do.

Just remove the 4 trim pieces and the back dome light which is 3 screws. they are different sizes IIRC, so keep track of them.

After that it just pops down.

There are supposed to be 2 push pins, one on each side, to hold it up, but they rarely work.

When I put the headliner back in, I start in the back at the dome light and hold it up with my head.

If you have a rear view mirror still, you can rest the front on there, just dont screw the dome light back all the way so you dont crease the cardboard.

Then get your A pillar trim back up and get it adjusted right and left so its centered.

Put everything else in.

Remember to be careful with the trim screws to not strip out the metal, especially in the front and the back.

What kind of cab do you have? I did a headliner replacement on my regular cab. It wasn't too bad, I just had to remove all the trim that went up to the roof and the overhead light. The hardest part was actually removing the old headliner from the cardboard that it's glued to. I just got the new headliner from Jo-ann's. Color was a perfect match. Hope this helps.

Same concepts as I posted earlier.

Just different trim.

Just gotta start in the back and set it on the mirror

It really is stupidly easy.

The hardest part is getting the screws lined up for the trim.

U use an angle grinder with a soft bristle wire brush.be easy, but it takes the foam off the board VERY nicely.im just worried about the getting in and out of the cab on my cc.im gonna have to do mine this next year.starting to sag in rt front corner...jo ann is great place to buy.just MAKE sure to get heavy duty adhesive! The standard stuff wont do it....i say that from experience....

looking at replacing the old one w/ abs plastic one (LMC #49-5077). getting it unfasten was not my concern as it was getting it out of the truck and the new one in. it is a big liner and a little door.
