Hey guys, new to the forum.

I'm looking to buy a used Ford diesel truck and have narrowed it down to two trucks. One is a beautiful 1986 Ford F250 Diesel 6.9L Automatic transmission 4x4 with 270 000Kms (168 000 miles for you 'Mericans) as listed here:

The other is a 1990 Ford F250 Diesel 7.3L Manual with 385 000kms (239 000 Miles) as listed here:

1990 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat Diesel Saanich, Victoria

If both are maintained to the same level, what's the better truck? Both have a great rep, but the 86 is a smaller engine and auto tranny, and I don't want to break the bank buying gas. Any feedback?

 

personally i would look closer at the 90

 

The power and mileage difference between the 7.3 idi and the 6.9 idi will be so small you shouldnt even notice. With the 7.3 you need to make sure the coolant has had SCA levels maintained.

I would also be looking hard at the 90. It will have overdrive, which is so nice to have if you do any highway driving.

 

id def take a look at the 90. price is better. looks in better shape. newer. bigger motor. and standard which is better. only thing i see worse is the higher miles but its got the package that can last a long time

 

definately the 90. unless there is someting seriously wrong with it it's just a better truck overall, better options package, WAY better looking.
