I have tried a few small pull away kind of drags around here but the way my gears are, i just don't have the kick to get by them. I know my motor could do it even with 35's but my gears just aren't ment for that.

I have 3.54's in my 71 f100 4x4 with 35's and a 360, it really struggles also to turn those tires but at 60 mph on the freeway it is getting about 16 mph (good trade off for me)

that's pretty good I guess. I have 2.73s in my rear and 35s. it will spin them if I try hard enough but I don't do it a lot. I am afraid of something breaking.

yup the previous owner or someone before him did it. I will have to fix it one day but with the way they are now it feels gutless.

that would be nice but I don't know what is required to change a whole rear end. plus if I went with 4.10s then I would still not be able to use 4wd. my d44 in the front is 3.55s as far as we know.

Dana 44 front Dana 60 rear axle 4x4 rock crawler swamper 4.10 gear 35" | eBay

It's really not that hard to swap out the ring and pinion. The real deal is the
preload and shims.

Unfortunately i don't really know what preload and shims are. I mean i kind of know but not for this application. Besides wouldn't 4.10's be too much? Even with 35s.

410's and 35's should put you at 2550 rpm's at 65mph

4.10's were factory for some f250's (camper special, trailer special) and most f350's in the 70's. Like stromburg said, your crusing rpms will be in the upper 2k range. Mine turns 2600 with a c6 and 4.10 axle, with 31's.

If ever you think 4.10's and 35's, look at one of my friends; he has 4.88's and 35's in a 4 liter jeep cherokee

Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving

If it was me I would stay away from the closed knuckle axle like in the ebay add that Yahiko posted. If you are going to swap axles get an open knuckle axle I think they quite making the closed knuckle in the early 70s.

I plan on swapping axles in my Bronco this winter. I have a set of full width axles, Dana 44 with disc brakes and a Ford 9" that I need to re-gear to 4.10s first. I hope I can get it done this winter, I didn't even look at them last winter.
