Good Morning Everybody!

I have to go pick up my u-joint this morning and get the drive shaft in the '56. I'm torn whether or not I want to use my B&M shifter in the '56, or just build one. I guess I'll weigh my options and make a decision later today.

Oh I have more than one set...9 3/4 wide is the norm. Once I am back home we can work out a trade of some kind. I'll trade a hand working on a project......

I have a set of slotted mags too, that are a little narrower.

Morning folks.

RC. The problem I thought I'd have is the shifter handle length. Since it's in a '50's truck, the seat position is kinda high for a car shifter. I thought I could build a Lokar style shifter with a longer handle. A simple detent style shifter with a long handle is all this guy would need. Like I said, I have a complete B&M shifter with a cable and brackets, I'm just wondering how easy it will be to operate in the truck. I don't want this guy to have to lean over to the floor to shift it. I'll know more in a couple hours. Thanks for the offer, though.

Jeff. Do you have an extra set of those? My friend is building a General Lee and needs a set.

alan i just went out and looked at the 3spd auto shifter i have.. it is kinnda short to fit in a transam.. i guess it could be modified to be made longer the shifter handle is straight it is a hollow tube with the reverse lockout running thru it.. may be just as easy to build one from scratch i guess.. if you want to look at it let me know..i could make a trip your way and get some tires changed around so would not be a complete wasted trip anyway

The tire machine is here if you want to use it, RC. I have to run to the parts store, but I should be back here by noon(ish). No need to bring the shifter. I know what it looks like.

I think I might, hell there is no telling what I have since I am a craigslist-aholic. I can dig around and see what I have in the ol tire and wheel shed, when I get back off the road.

Alan, why not build a box to raise the shifter and just use a factory made one wo you don't have to get the math right on the lever lengths?

Good morning everybody, had a busy weekend of not working on my own stuff. 86 Ranger with an overheating problem...cracked thermostat housing. 2002 Mitsubishi Montero I've diagnosed a possible junk ignition control module. I could find no broken wires so it almost has to be that or a bad PCM/ECM...yuck.

I'm still watching for some wider 11 or 12" wide 16.5 Aluminum slots for Ms Dent.

Chip, the thought had crossed my mind about the shifter. I just got the drive shaft built and in and the hole for the four speed shifter welded up. I still have to hook up the trans cooler lines, detent cable, dipstick tube and replace the filter. The shifter is last on my list. I have some tubing here I could make a pedestal mount for the shifter, too. After I get it all back together, I'll see what I need to do about the shifter.

alan shifters are easy... just knock a big hole in the floor with a rusty dull chisel . vice grip a hunk of old all-thread or broomstick with a spark plug tied to the end for comfort to the lever and your ready to go...
