OK this is what I want To do. The truck comes with a 4 speed and I want to put a automatic in its place. I have the FE transmission and the proper tail shaft, So you can attach the linkage for the transfer box.
Has anyone done this? will my shift linkage on the 4speed work with the automatic?
Thanks Dave

Do you have the donor truck? Are you placing the auto column in the truck? You will need it to have NSS and reverse lights to work. There is also a harness plug you will need to make NSS work. Its under the hood. Get it from the donor truck. Is the transmission complete from the donor truck? Reason I ask is if you picked up a tail shaft from your parts buddy you have other issues. If your transmission is from a car than you have other issues. I will wait to see your comment to answer further.
NOW YOUR ANSWER.
The automatic to the column shifter is good to go. The 4X4 shifter rod is a different length, 4 speed is longer than automatic as is the drive shaft between the transmission and transfer case. You will also need to drill new holes in the frame as the mount will move back. speed o cable good to go.

Yes I do have a doner truck. I found a 76 f150 2wd that is in great shape.
It has the automatic, and I have the specail tail shaft to put on it. I plan on using the body from the 2wd,
If I have to move the transfer case, I hope it does not move much. I would like to avoid doing a bunch of drive line work.

Are you aware that you have to take the entire trans apart to change the output shaft and extension housing?
You're going to need a shop manual and a camera to take pics as C6's have myriad different snap rings and washers.
There are 3 clutch packs, forward, direct and reverse using a specific number and type of steel and lined clutch plates for each.

I was hoping that by using the FE C6 trans with the 4x4 tail shaft, That would be the same as a 4x4 auto trans. I know that there is going to be some tranny work. And since it's apart I would throw a rebuild kit in it. There not that much money. If this gets to ugly then maybe I will keep the 4 speed. BUT I Really want a auto trans.
