04 F250 Fuel Thickum

I have a 04 F250 6.0 deisel. The Dealer says the fuel thickum is going to need replaceing at a cost of $1200.00. What is a fuel thickum and what does it do? Thanks for any help.

It's "FICM", or fuel injection control module, judging by the cost estimate. It's a computer module that controls the 8 fuel injectors, it can be damaged by a long list of things, mainly old/weak batteries and alternator, and made worse certain software flashes from Ford.

We have a few test and repair threads in the 6.0L forum, and there's a vendor who specializes in repair. So do yourself a favor and read a bit before you shell out $1200, we might be able to save you some money

Here's the repair guy, he has an awesome reputation around here:

If you can run through the test procedure and get actual voltage readings, a quick call the Ed@ficmrepair will let you know If it's salvageable. If you don't want to mess with a DVM, this tools can be programmed to check both voltages that relate to the FICM:

Whatever you do don't sit on it, injectors are $220 each plus labor and if you run with low FICM voltage for too long they'll start dying off. Don't let that scare you into paying the dealer to do it, just start looking at options now instead of later. Removing the module yourself is very simple and there are some great technical guys who can walk you through every step, so don't discount doing this yourself.

What were the symptoms that caused the truck to end up at the dealer in the first place?

Buy yourself a Scangauge II for about $150, you can program it to read FICM voltages so you can determine if that is the problem yourself. Also reads about any temp/voltage you can think of (aside from EGT and diffs) Nice little gauge
