97 350 with 170k injectors shut down
So, driving home yesterday, in a 55mph zone not carrying a load, all of a sudden it started sputtering and barely had enough ***** to get home. Sounded like it dropped some cylinders, so I listened and thought it was coming from the driver side. Pull off valve cover and sure enough wires were toast. Put a new vcg and harnesses on driver side. Button it up, fire it up and still runs like crap.
Just for the hell of it, I undid the connectors to the vcg on the driver side and the engine shut down. Restarted it and disconnected the passenger side and it kept running with no change in demeanor. So, good news is, I figured out it was the passenger side, bad news is, all the connections look great for the vcg and harnesses. Where do I start? Is there something that controls each bank of injectors that I am unaware of? I'm not good when it comes to a test meter, so if someone could walk me through it, that would be great. I have searched on here and a m still confused. I have a brand new map sensor laying around here and tried that with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. I real;ly need this on the road by Sunday night. Thanks for reading.

Check the IDM for water. It is the computer module bolted to the inside of the driver side fender. Three (8mm) bolts take it loose, then 1 (10mm) bolt removes the wiring harness from the back of the IDM. Then give it a shake and listen for water inside.
The other thing you could do would be to ohm out the injector coils. They should read about 3.2 ohms each (there about). Ohm them directly, or ohm them through the VCG. The middle pin of each connector is the common for the injectors and the pins just to either side of it are the injector leads themselves (pins are GP-INJ-C-INJ-GP). If the IDM senses a bad injector coil it can shut down a whole bank like you're describing.
That's a place to start. The CPS would be another thing to try if all that checks out okay, but typically (although they have been known to do some strange stuff) when the CPS fails the truck just dies.
Good luck!
