No start Ranger, remove fuel cap and it starts!!
Well, the title may already explain the issue I am having with a 1999 Ranger. The fuel pump is getting pressurized, but truck fails to start. When the fuel cap is removed, it starts. Is it as obvious as a bad cap? Or is something else going on, such as vacuum and or ventilation problems in the system.

I don't think that the gas caps are vented anymore, due to pollution regulations. All venting has to pass thru the charcoal canister to capture gas fumes. I'm not well-versed enough to give out any advice on this subject, but this is the area you need to investigate. Maybe something as simple as a pinched hose.

I sold my 88 just a few years ago. You are right that the cap
does not have a vent in it. so that leaves the Op with a problem
in the vapor recovery system. There is really not a lot to it.
One easy check would be to remove the cap and then the line
from the tank. Put one of the hand held vac pumps on it and
see if you get any flow if you don't then the problem is from
there back to the tank. It's most likely a stuck valve in the
engine compartment. Just start at the canister and work back
to the intake port.
