2.3L Ranger PCM fuse keeps blowing
Description: It will crank over forever but not start. New timing belt water pump, etc, so it is not timing. tried different fuel pump relay. no luck. new fuse no luck. The radio fuse also shorts and blows when I change it. Headlight does not come on, but the cabin "ding ding ding" sound plays. Marker, turning, reverse, and brake lights work.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT does not come on during key turn.
I may know what caused it or it may not.
Before all of this happened, my audio system fuse under the hood blow. It blew again after I installed a new fuse (immediately).
One day, the wires on a portable cigarette light pump snapped and the two wires had been touch.
I noticed the truck stalled several times when letting off the gas and coming to a rolling stop.
The fuel pump relay makes a click noise when I turn the key

What year is your truck and how many miles are on it? How is it for routine maintenance - plugs, wires, filters? Does the Check Engine Light (CEL) come on and stay on after the engine starts? If so, take it to an auto parts store that will read the codes at no charge and post the numbers here.

If the CEL light does not come on ( and is not burned out), the PCM isn't talking.
So, are you saying that the fuse for the PCM also blew -- and keeps blowing?
If that's the case, it could be the PCM ( bad) , or it could be some kind of a short ( maybe not too bad) .
Unplug the PCM and see if it still blows -- if it does, you have a different problem. If it doesn't, it still might be due to something that the computer activates when it's powered up.
From your description, I do suspect a short somewhere. If that's the case it will take a meter and some digging to figure it out. alldata ( available online at some libraries ) often has decent info about how wires are routed alopng with wiring diagrams.
Good Luck,
hj

The CEL is not burnt out and had been working before this. I am leaning towards a short. Why? Because when I had 12v air compressor, the wires broke and had touched continuously. My friend said it may have burned the sheathing off the wire and is touching one another or metal. I will put a meter to the cig lighter wires and see what it does. Also, I am guessing that if this is the cause, I should also be able to pull the fuse controlling it would be just like disconnecting it from the system. Yes or no?
thanks
EDIT---------
Checked the voltage to the cig. outlet and it reads 13.xx. (truck is charging ATM)
The PCM fuse is not blowing anymore. I am going to try and get a different PCM and try it out.
