Transponder Keys

My new-to-me 2009 F250 came with only one key. I have ordered more blanks off eBay. I understand you need to have 2 working keys to program others. Since I only have one, I guess the dealer is my only option.

What is the going rate for having the dealer duplicate a transponder key? I don't want to be ripped off.

Thanks!

The dealer is the worst option. I had mine done at a hardware store about $75. Look around..........still a rip off.

So do most independent repair shops. When I owned a shop I had a Ford NGS. I could (and did) program keys with only one original key.

Some new info. Added in case anyone looks this thread up in the future. Some locksmiths have a machine that "clones" the existing key. Also, Walmart and Lowes are starting to carry a similar cloning system by Hillman. One important difference, is that the clone key is identical to your original. If you try to use these two keys to then program other keys, the car computer won't accept this. As far as the car computer is concerned, you have put the same key in twice. You need two different keys.
