Parking brake woes

1993 f150 4.9 engine, 4 speed manual tranny.

Ok thankyou in advance for any advise.
Here is dear old Lousiana, we have safety inspections instead of emissions.
The parking brake on my truck stopped working. Inspection showed that the front cable from the pedal had snapped. I replaced the cable but cannot connect the new cable back to the rest of the assemply.
I have an equalizer but there is no tension limiter or any way that I can see to adjust the cable other than the self adjuster in the wheel, which only lets out an inch or so. With the cables relaxed, I am about 2.5 inches short. I can pull the cables about an inch or so but no where near enough to attach the front cable.

Any ideas?? I am at the point of improvising something here.

Oh, an I have read through the forums and have seen other related posts but none seem to be my answer.

Best bet is to pick up a manual and see exactly what needs to be done and if there are any missing parts. Also check to see if there are different cables for different cab and wheelbase configurations.

Pull the parking brake release lever fully out and hold it there (helper/zip tie), this should allow you then to pull abour 3-4 inches of cable from the brake assemble to attach to the equalizer. When fitted release the release lever and the cable should self adjust.
