Kin Pins for disk brake spindles
First i want to say thanks to all who post on this forum. The information provided by the patrons of this forum has allowed me to make many repairs/upgrades to my vehicle. Please note that I don't by any means consider myself to be a mechanic. I am just a parts changer. I apologize in advance for the long post. History: I have a 1971 Ford F-100 SWB 2WD that I have owned for about 10 years. I have made many improvements since owning the vehicle to include changing from drum brakes to manual disk brakes in the front of the vehicle. About three years ago I purchased a complete disk brake kit from LMC Truck. The king pins that came with the kit had nylon bushings and installing them (the king pins and bushings) was not that hard to do. Well in Virginia it is a requirement that you get your vehicle inspected on a yearly basis. About two weeks ago I had to get a new inspection sticker and was surprised to learn that the nylon bushings are now worn to the point where there is a lot of play where the king pins connects the spindle to the I-Beams. I need to purchase new king pins and bushings however since ordering the kit from LMC Truck I don't know which king pins to order for the vehicle. The question is are there a difference in the king pins for drum brake spindles verses disk brake spindles? I called LMC Truck and asked them what king pins and bushings are required for the disk brake spindles and was told by them that they need to research my question and would get back to me with an answer. No answer from them yet. If possible with the new king pins i would like to use metal bushings since i've been told that the metal bushings last longer. Since i am just a parts changer i went ahead and purchased a king pin kit with metal bushings that you would normally purchase for drum brake spindles however it seems impossible to install the metal bushings into the disk brake spindle. I have read on this forum that the metal bushings are somewhat differcult to install, but the metal bushings that came with the kit i purchased was impossible to install. Since the bushings were seemingly impossible to install i now think that i must have purchased the wrong king pins and bushings. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Need to get truck back into operation as soon as possible. hdunlap

Look for the engineering ID number cast into the spindles.
1973: First year that F100 2WD's came with disc brakes.
Spindle ID numbers:
1965/67 F100: C5TA-3107-A (R/L)
1968/72 F100: C8TA-3107-D (R/L)
1973/74 F100: D3TA-3107-CD or DD (Right) & D3TA-3108-CD or DD (Left).
1975/79 F100/150: D5TA-3107-FB (Right) & D5TA-3108-FB (Left).
Order the kit with the metal bushings because they'll last longer. They need to be fitted and reamed by a machine shop.
EDIT: Props to ND for the part numbers.. filed for reference!<!-- / message -->
