2000 F150 turns over but won't start

My 2000 Ford F150 will turn over but won't start. I can spray a little starting fluid in and it will run for a second or two, so I'm thinking it might be the fuel pump, or the relay. I loaned it to my daughter, and thankfully it quit in her driveway and not on the road! Any suggestions on what to check first? It is a 4.6L V-8 2 wheel drive.

Thanks!

Thanks for taking time to answer my post. I checked the relay/fuse today, and listened for the fuel pump to come on, which it did. After a little bit, I depressed the gas pedal about 3 times and turned it over and it cranked. I don't remember the last time I changed the fuel filter. Could that be the problem?

Thanks,

Mine is not starting intermittently. I've checked the fuel rail when it does it and there is no pressure. If I keep rocking the ignition off to on and the pump will eventually kick on and it'll start fine. When I figured this much out, I ordered a pump, screen, and filter. I'd say you're looking at the same thing.....

As a side note, I checked the relays and fuses. Everything tested good. The last time I had a fuel pump go out on this generation truck it did the same exact thing.

Yes it can be the problem a new fuel filter certainly could not hurt....even if it really doesn't improve the situation.... At least you know that the filter has been covered. it is not a big expense.

have you cleaned your MAF sensor? if not, be sure to use cleaner safe for MAF sensors.

After changing the fuel filter and cleaning the MAF sensor. The nest step is to test the fuel pressure.
