Hopefully I'll get the new ones installed without too much trouble once I get the floor pans replaced. I'm just hoping my limited welding skills will hold up to this job. I'm kind of nervous about the cutting, fitting, and welding phase.

dave i think on those you need to find and drill the spot welds out.. then when you get the new stands if you dont have a spot welder you can drill holes and button hole weld em back in.. just be sure of the exact alignment before final welding.. shims can correct some for fender alignment

That's pretty much what I'm planning on. I think I can manage the spot welds without too much trouble. The floor pans may take a bit more, but I think I can handle them,

Parts!

As I started uploading the pictures, it occurred to me that I ought to do the tie rod ends and front brakes while I have the front end torn up. There's lots of room to work under there now.
Ain't that kinda the problem when you start taking it apart? "Now that I think about it.........." "Since I'm already here ......." "Ya know, I really should ......"

Actually, replacing the cab mounts and shoring up everything else was the precise reason I took it apart.

It's still ten times better than that '66 I just built.

Alan - I'm not complaining one bit. My last "project" was a '66 Dodge 1/2 ton. The more I cleaned it up, the worse it got. By the time I got ready to start on it I found that substantial portions of the rockers, floors, and forward part of the cowl had rotted out. Even worse was the fact that there was no aftermarket part support and finding a parts truck with a decent cab was all but impossible to find.

This time around I have a solid cab and parts are available for what needs fixing. This project is certainly easier than my other attempt at a project truck.

I managed to make just a bit of progress this afternoon and I still haven't found anything worth throwing in the towel about.

The front end is now up in the air. I used one set of jack stands under the front axle to support the chassis. I then jacked up the corners of the cab and supported them with a second set of jack stands.

I tried eyeballing the body lines between the cab and the bed as I raised the front of the cab. I think I've got them pretty close.

Ummm RC - Is that a welded tie rod end?

Another effect of raising the cab - the clutch pedal now comes all the way back up!

I thought about getting the hood and inners out, but with rain in the forecast for the next couple of days I decided to leave them be. I did have Nikki bring the fenders in to the garage. If it starts raining on my parade, I can work on getting the fenders ready.

humm dave.. i dont really remember doing it.. but i do recall calling the parts store about the long tie-rod end and it was like 100.00..(since i have been accused of being so tight i squeak when i walk) it is possible i did a bit of creative engineering ...

Dave looking good, watch for some rain water softening the ground under your jack stands boards and the cab support set.
