I have a friend that has a 6.0 that threw a rod with 58K on a Ford replacement motor. This is the third failure of a 6.0 in this truck. I have a 7.3 with 178K and no big problems so I'm wondering what's up with the 6.0?
My understanding is the bottom end in the 6ltr is STRONG. I am with Benny! He hydro locked it, or he was really revving the pee out of it.
3 engines.........I would have given up on the truck, and bought a Toyota! (I despise the thought of a Toyota in my Drive Way....for the record)

........ and don't think that Toyota trucks are without their share of issues either. And I, for the record are not one of those of the "buy American to support your economy" mindset. I just happened to be brainwashed as a kid to love Fords and always have since then, except for all their new products that are coming out lately, but that's a whole 'nother story. But from what I've heard/read, those Toyota trucks have had serious issues of frames prematurely rusting away, and are also extremely expensive to repair. I guess that's why I don't see nearly as many of them on the road as I do Fords.
And back to the OP. I don't think giving up on his 6.0L truck will fix his problem either by the sounds of things.

No offense, but a series of repeated engine failures in the same truck belonging to the same person logically lead to the question of "What's up with your friend?" rather than "What's up with the 6.0".

The logical answer here is to let him borrow your 7.3, while you diagnose all the issues with the 6.0!
Bust away. I LOVE those two vehicles. But I am also one of those idiots who is "stuck in the past" that believes vehicles are "incomplete" if it has any less than eight cylinders under the hood, and not driving the rear wheels.
That said, I'm sure you have an idea of how I feel about Ford discontinuing the Ford Crown Victoria/Lincoln Town Car models. Models that have been nothing but HUGELY successful for them, I might add.

HEY HEY HEY NOW!!! Are you trying to help him end his friendship with his buddy? THREE blown engines are bad enough. Do you really want to make it FOUR?!!!

I am not sure why they did. Fleets and Police will miss them. Maybe cause they are so politically incorrect? I can't figure out what the upside of selling Aston Martin was either.
