Shifter ****

Hey,

I was looking to replace the ugly standard shift **** on my 89 2.9L (5-speed) ranger. i want to know if it the screw on type or the kind you just yank on?

yank or cut a piece of 2x4 a little shorter that the shifter and stand the 2x4 up just behind the shifter. Use a pickel fork to lever it off by setting it on the end of the 2x4 and hooking it under the **** and push .......

Its funny you should ask. My **** broke today in a most unusual way. The center of the **** broke out from the top leaving a hole down to the top of the metal shifter ????

Too funny! My friends truck had the top of the shifter broken just like that with a bud light cap jammed in the hole for decoration.

The shifter does just pop off, it's kinda tough to get off on purpose but quite often just comes off in your hand if you powershift. I got a one-size fits all set screw type from autobone, but it didn't have a set screw or fit exactly right, but at least it hasn't come off on me yet.

good luck
