If I would have had steel fenders I would have worked on them....but I also did an F2 to F1 conversion. I went with fiberglass...they took the paint with some prep. I'd do it again.
Dan
I should mention that I did spend a few hours fitting up the upper and lower fenders.
PS...still working on the bed...I have to re-paint the sides and the tailgate...my HVLP spray gun wasn't working well that day & it started sputtering.....It was an orange peel special!!!

After doing all the work to fix the rust in the usual places, I hit a deer that thrashed one side's fenders. The front was possibly salvagable with a lot of work. The rear was totally thrashed. I bought a FG upper front, and a FG rear both for the right side (I think from Obsolete--drove into OKC and picked them up). Bolting them on took some work as I had to mark my own mounting holes and could have really used an extra hand. Good primer and paint and they've held up nicely ever since. It's been 8 years now. No cracks. No problems of any kind. On the other hand (the driver's side) I'm getting rust bubbles showing up. If I don't get to them soon I'll end up going glass on that side to save the time and money on repairs. Besides that, I drive my truck regularly so it sees weather and rock chips. FG has proven MORE durable (as much as I honestly hate to say it).
Food for thought,
