MPGs not as bad as I thought!

You may recall me saying on some other MPG discussions that I didn't think mine was all that good, but I had never checked it. Well, I filled the front tank the other day and set my trip meter. I checked my mileage today, and I'm getting 18 mpg on these hilly, curvy country roads!!! This is my '97 F250 in my sig. It has 285 tires and no fan. I'm pretty pleased with this mileage, I was expecting 12 mpg at the most.

Yeah, that was a real nice suprise. I guess since I filled up so often, it just seemed like it was using a lot of fuel, but after I thought about it, I was only getting about 12 gallon at every fill up. I usually don't let it go much below a 1/4 tank before I fill up. Just thought I'd share my excitement about it.

That's driving normal for me too Mike. I try to keep it 2k rpm or under, but that's hard on the four lane with the 4.10s. I just never dreamed this truck was getting that good of mileage.

I run about 65 on the four lane and I'm at about 2300 rpm. I very seldom run 70.

Mine has gotten about 18 1/2 the last few times I checked it, I normally run mine at 70 mph and it's turning 2000 rpm. At 75 it drops a good bit.

I cant bring myself to run 65 long enough to check it there.......

I'd say 90% of my driving is on two lane country roads at 55 mph, so I figure 18 mpg is good for 4.10 gears.

When mine had 4:10's it wouldn't get 18 no matter where or how I drove it.

I would say that's very good.

Huh, that's interesting. I don't drive the four lane enough to tell if mine would do that, but I'm pretty tickled with what I'm getting LOL!

I got just over 18 mpg on a trip to Boise last month... it's mostly going downhill from 4500' to 2700' over 430 miles, but with my mods, I was still pretty happy.
