Choke wont shut all the way

85 E350 Motorhome with 460. Electric choke. Loosen screws, rotate dial and choke only closes about 3/4 of the way. Rotate the other way and the choke opens up all the way. Even with throttle wide open, I can't even close the choke by hand. I have to stuff a rag over the choke to get it to start. Easy solution would be to simply pull the carb and inspect the linkage, but with the van chassis the carb it a real PITA to get at. Hoping this is something simple and you guys can give me some things to look for.

Adam you have bigger issues if you have to put a rag over the carb. First check the vacuum hoses. I bet you have a leak.

Used to be carb engines you could put the throttle all the way to the floor before starting to set the choke to full. This is where thing-a-mabob came from. The thingamabob the choke adjustment screw rides on has a spot that when going to full throttle it drops the choke to full. Of course you might have some newer version without that feature but eh. Worth a try.
