300/4.9L swap into a 2nd gen dodge 3500

Hey guys I know this isn't the best forum to ask this but I was curious. Does anyone know if this is anywhere near possible? I figured it might be similar due to the fact that the 3500 can fit a I6 cummins. The reason I am asking this is because I have a 1990 F-150 with a 4.9 and there is a 2nd gen dodge 3500 with a V-10 sitting in my neighborhood and I don't believe it is running. If it will fit and I can get that non-running dodge I would swap it over since the body is in a lot better condition. Just curious though if anyone knew/tried this before. Sorry about asking about a dodge on a Ford truck forum.

Thanks,

MeWoahIts

I don't see why not. There are dozens of forums, posts, and even companies that specialize in putting I6 Cummins into Ford trucks, so I would think it would go the other way around.

You're going to have to fabricate motor mounts, transmission mounts and possible a cross member, if the I6 is EFI you're going to need to change all the wiring over as the computers are different. You'll need a ford rear end with the speed sensor provision in the pumpkin if you don't have one in the side of the trans. You'll need to have a driveshaft made. It's not just a simply bolt in swap. Can it be done yes, but is it cost effective? Probably not. You might just be better off finding a truck that's in better shape that already runs. It is your project and feel up to it go for it though. Make sure you do a build thread on here as I'd love to see the progress and follow it.

Sounds like it would be best for you to find a running 318 and drop it in the Dodge.
