Multifunction Switch

Ok, my dads 2004 Expedition's multifunction (turn signal) switch lever broke off. Getting a replacement switch on order. Question is how do you remove the column cover to access the switch? I removed the screws holding the two pieces together but can not get it to come apart. Do I need to remove the steering wheel inorder to remove the column cover? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jaime

Disconnect the battery negative cable.

Remove the tilt lever, if equipped.

Remove the ignition key cylinder.

Remove two or three screws that hold the lower and upper shrouds together.

Remove lower cover.

Tilt wheel all the way down and work the top cover out.

Assembly is the reverse.

The two halves have little tabs that lock them together along the seams. Just grab near a seam and push and pull the top and bottom halves while pulling them apart. This is a brute force procedure.

I don't believe I had to remove the ignition lock to do the job.
