'99 - Long Crank Time Before Turning Over

Just purchased a '99 F150 Lariat a few weeks ago, has around 113k. One of the only issues the guy reported that I purchased it from was that sometimes it has a long crank. I took it into a mechanic and he checked it over, replaced the plugs and did a few other things that had not been done at 100k.
When I started it after getting it back, it still cranked a few extra seconds beyond a normal crank before turning over. I changed out the fuel filter and this fixed the problem for a week. However, it just started up again with the long crank time. It can be a cold or hot crank, and it is inconsistent, sometimes normal crank, sometimes a long crank.

Anyways, does anyone have any suggestion?

Thanks.

Welcome to FTE F150Poke,

First of all what engine?

So many things can cause this

Low battery power

bad coil or COPs

low fuel pressure

bad sparkplug wires

Is the CEL on?

There are some good people on this forum that can help you with

your truck, they WILL post soon.

I am just giving you a starting point. The more information

you can post will help us help you get closer to fixing your truck.

I would have to agree with khadma on the battery, and also I would add that if that starter is older it might need a once over. And clean all the connectors

Thanks for the replies.

Its a 5.4L engine. I did take it by an auto parts store and they tested the battery and also said the starter and alternator appeared to be good as well.

Did you get a flatbed to bring it there ? IMO I don't trust anyone that works at those auto stores
