Hey guys, This is my first diesel and i have a few problems. Its an 85 f250 6.9 NA. PO installed a switch for the glow plugs and they were working fine up until a month ago. The glow plug light wont come on now when i flip the switch. I tested the bulb and that works fine. But when trying to start i have to crank for awhile, if i plug in my block heater for a while it fires right up. BUT, upon start up i get quite a bit of white smoke until warmed up. ALSO, when shifting at high rpm i get a little puff of white smoke. She does blow the usual black smoke. Can anyone please help me with this? Winter is right around the corner and would like to have it running good. Recent maintenance was Fuel,air and oil filter as well as oil change and coolant flush. Coolant has stayed bright green with no signs of oil in coolant and no coolant in oil. Thanks guys.

 

Anyone?? I got the glow plugs working, turns out the ground on the relay was disconnected. Still have the white smoke problem. Should I swap out the injectors?

 

have you tried adjusting yor timing?

 

I have not. I will try that out this weekend and see if that helps. Do you have any good links for instructions?

if you have a 6.9 pump you wont have a tab on top to turn the pump.
