1997 F150 - ABS Module (4WABS) Location

My '97 F150 has 4WABS. The ABS light is on, and a friend of mine checked the code with his scanner... I forget exactly what the code was (wrote it down but lost the paper) but it was a B1098 or something similar. Said it was an ABS module circuit fault. Sweet. Looked in the Ford Service CD, and all roads lead to a fuse or replacing the module. All my fuses are good, so I called Ford to get the part number on the module. The gentleman at the parts counter said it was the module on the ABS pump/junction block itself (F85Z-2C219-A), and obsolete. Fantastic.

I seem to recall there being one behind the dash plate for the radio as well, however, he said there was nothing ABS related there. Am I thinking of the Expedition air ride module, or is there really an ABS module there as well in the F-Series?

Where is this thing really, and what years will work on my truck? I'm making a pilgrimage to the junkyard tomorrow, and would really like to know.

The parts counter drone was correct as the location of the 4WABS control module.

Refer to section 206-09B of your 1997 Workshop Manual on the service CD.

4WABS was pretty rare on a 97. Probably not very many out there for salvage or in the re-manufactured category.

Oh I am aware it's rare. Possibly because this truck was options loaded (almost) with the off-road and tow pack and everything else, they decided to put ABS in the front too. My buddy's '98 XLT, which is the sister truck to mine minus the Lariat interior, has just the RABS.... even though that is off-road/tow pack, etc etc.

Hoping I find one at the junkyard tomorrow; haven't found any aftermarket modules yet for it. My service CD install is FUBAR at this point. Do you know what year span the modules where used, or have a series of part numbers I could go by? I'm guessing '97-'98 F150s w/4WABS only... as '99 there were a bunch of changes and Expeditions had air ride and whatnot. Please correct me if I am wrong...

For 1997, 4WABS was an option for Standard, XL, and XLT trim lines, though I expect very very few were ever ordered with it, since there wasn't any sales flash and trash for an extra ABS option on the lot with the public then.

However, 4WABS was a part of the top of the line LARIAT package, so all Lariats, both 2WD and 4WD, have 4WABS.

Quick LARIAT Identification -
Besides the lower Lariat stripe and special edging down low, Lariats also have the Lariat dual-color stripe that starts just above the headlight, continues along the side of the front fender near the top, across the door just under the window, on the door the stripe is interrupted by the word "Lariat" in script, then the stripe continues and then onto the rear of the cab side, stopping before the box.

Looking for the upper Lariat stripe and word should make junkyard F150 sorting a lot quicker.

I do not know anything about 4WABS module interchangeability.

I'm good for identifying a Lariat... I did not know they all came with 4WABS. Thanks, that helps a lot.
